Dear CHS Wrestling Alumni, Family and Friends,

 Welcome to the eighth edition of the Calaveras High School Wrestling Alumni Newsletter. We have started practicing and wanted to send you a schedule and a preview of the upcoming season.

We currently have 64 students signed up for this years’ wrestling team, the largest number Bowe and I can remember ever having out for the team. Our 28 freshmen,(last year we only had 3), will be a good nucleus to build on for our future varsity teams. Small School Section Champion and state qualifier, Tyler Brown, and league champions, Brenden Sullivan and Gary Gellerman, will be leading this year’s team on a quest for our 10^th league championship in the last 11 years. Our goal is to repeat as league champions, improve on last year’s runner-up finish in the section and have a state place winner. Summerville, Argonaut and BH should be our top competitors in the league while Escalon and Central Catholic will be very tough in the section.

On the enclosed schedule card you will notice that we will be hosting our annual Gordon Hay Invitational on 1-9-10. Our big dual with BH will be at home on Wednesday, Feb. 3 with the JVs starting at 6:00. We love to beat the bullfrogs at home so try to come out and watch the fun.  

We have included information on our Booster Program and a list of last year’s sponsors. Thanks to their generous support we were able to purchase new uniforms and electronic timers. In this very tough economy we know that everyone is being hit hard. Our budget this year was cut by 60%, which means we will need to pay for the cost of our $2500 in tournament entry fees. All of our sponsor money this year will go for tournament entry fees and hotel rooms at our overnight tournaments. Thank you for your continued support.
